Need Advice On Setting Up Blog While Site Is Being Made

I’m putting up a new site, and while it’s being created, I thought starting a blog would be a good way to get the site going.

Should I just put a logo on main page, “coming soon”, and link to the blog?
Or should I redirect the front page to the blog. And can I safely redirect to the blog without messing with my rank?
