Formatting A Date In A Rss Feed

I have statement in a rss script:
print “\n <pubDate>”.date($line[3]).”</pubDate>”;

The date displays correctly in IE but not Firefox

Looking at the source, the pub date is
<pubDate>20081230093409</pubDate>

How do you format the date correctly?
